Weird and Wacky Wednesdays: Volume 307

This week on Weird and Wacky Wednesdays we’re exploring tales of lost thing and people, and the incredible lengths people go to when they’re found.

Why did the 2 Cows Cross the Road?

To start a full-blown culture war, complete with protests, death threats, and even a cameo from Joaquin Phoenix. In Newfane, New York, two cows named Blackee and Hornee wandered away from their farm and into Tracy Murphy’s animal sanctuary. Murphy refused to return the cows to their owner, Scott Gregson, without proof of ownership and payment for their care.

This standoff sparked a two-year legal battle, protests, and even threats of violence. The case has garnered national attention, dividing the small town and prompting discussions on animal rights, property laws, and neighborly conduct. The trial is set to begin in October, with Murphy facing up to a year in jail.

Fingerprint the Finger

Proof of ownership of a cow might be more straightforward than the proof of ownership of a finger. On July 5, Tacoma police were called to investigate a human finger found in a driveway. After a fruitless search for the owner and no reports of dismembering injuries from local hospitals, the case seemed destined to remain a mystery.

However, a man recently came forward, claiming the finger as his own, lost during a fireworks mishap. He was identified through fingerprint records. No criminal charges were approved for the mishandling of fireworks. It seems he suffered enough. We often say that possession is nine tenths of the law. In this case the missing one-tenth seems to have been a significant indicator that it was, in fact, this fellow’s property.

Where’s my stuff?

Just a week after Amazon Prime Day, we expect to see more lost packages and missing orders. But instead of the order just not arriving, one woman received something totally unexpected.  Our final story, a Colombian woman named Sofia Serrano ordered an air fryer from Amazon, only to receive a large lizard instead.

The surprise delivery, later identified as a Spanish Rock Lizard, left Sofia horrified and puzzled. She shared her experience on social media, which quickly went viral, garnering over 4.1 million views. While Sofia waited for a resolution from Amazon, the incident sparked both fear and amusement among netizens, highlighting the occasional pitfalls of e-commerce. I can’t find anything on Amazon’s website to deal with this particular type of refund.
