Welcome to another edition of “Weird and Wacky Wednesdays,” where we dive into the bizarre and the unexpected! This week, we’re turning up the heat with stories of things that absolutely should not be on fire or exploding. From a beloved donut shop to a fiery street brawl, and even a spontaneously combusting body camera, these tales are sure to ignite your curiosity and tickle your funny bone.
Donut Destruction
In College Station, Texas, donut devotees are mourning the loss of their beloved Krispy Kreme, which met a rather explosive end. The only Krispy Kreme in town went up in flames, leaving nothing but glazed rubble and a lingering scent of burnt sugar. Law enforcement quickly arrived but it wasn’t to grab a coffee and an original glazed. The incident involved the ATF National Response team, College Station Fire Department and the State Fire Marshal’s Office.
During the course of their investigation, they found suspicious accelerants and racist graffiti at the scene. While Krispy Kreme fans now have to trek to Humble or hope their local Kroger carries their favorite treats, the fiery demise of this donut haven has left a hole in more than just the town’s pastry offerings.
Fiery Street Performance
From flaming donuts to flaming performers, we move south of the border to a street corner showdown. In Morelia, Mexico, a turf war over tips turned into a literal blaze of glory. A fire-breather, known for his street performances, found himself in a fiery feud with a mariachi band.
The mariachis, apparently not fans of his flame-throwing antics, decided to settle the score with fists. However, they didn’t anticipate their adversary’s fiery counterattack. As the fire-breather unleashed his flames, the mariachis scattered, several of them ablaze and frantically stripping off their burning attire.
Police announced that no arrests have been made yet and only the fire-breather had to be hospitalized from injuries. The fire-breather explained to the police that mariachis had started the fight after they argued. The dramatic scene unfolded in front of a taco joint aptly named ‘El Inferno,’ turning a simple street performance into a hellish spectacle.
Body cam blow up
Finally we go to New York City, with something that you didn’t think should or could catch fire or explode. A routine day at the infamous Rikers Island jail turned hazardous when a correctional captain’s body camera decided to spontaneously combust.
The captain, left with burns and smoke inhalation, became the first recorded victim of a body camera fire since their implementation in 2015. The incident prompted the immediate recall of all body-worn cameras, leaving officers to rely on good old-fashioned eyewitness accounts.
As the investigation unfolds, one thing is clear: safety protocols are getting a serious upgrade, and the correctional staff is hoping this is one fire that doesn’t reignite.
