Weird and Wacky Wednesdays: Volume 252

Welcome to this edition of Weird and Wacky Wednesdays where we bring you regular updates on not-so-regular news. For this week we have a mugger with romantic intentions, a leak from a beer factory (don’t get your hopes up), and the newest and youngest Taylor Swift fan in the world.

And the seas turned to blood..from a brewery leak

In Okinawa, Japan, red liquid leaking from Orion breweries turned the port in the city of Nago, blood red. Orion Breweries, known for their light tasting signature beer that sets itself apart from the main islands of Japan, said that the leak posed no health risk. The liquid contains propylene glycol which is generally recognized as safe for use in food.

The liquid leaked from from the brewery’s cooling systems, into the the rain gutters and into a river that ran into the port. Local residents complained that it looked “venomous” or “gruesome”. Thankfully a local health official said that there was no major impact on the environment which was good news for the city seeing how Nago is a resort town known for fishing.

I’m sure, like me, many of you were imaging geysers of beer shooting up and raining down from the sky or a giant tidal wave of brew rushing out from the breweries pipes. Alas, it was not be but a red sea is definitely is a sight to behold.

Welcome the newest and youngest member of the Swifties!

Tori Hedges of Ohio decided she could still make the Taylor Swift Eras Tour concert in Cincinnati a few weeks before her due date. “We were just happy we could get down there and go, hoping that I would be able to make it, and luckily was able to make it for the most part,” Hedges said.

Hedges was seated behind the stage in the upper bowl area of Paycor Stadium and began to head down towards the exit after the show ended. As she was climbing down, her water broke. At that point Hedges was saying to her friend, “I think, I think I got to go to the bathroom.” Her friend, surprised as she was, grabbed the first person that was closest outside of the bathroom.

A stranger Niko Lacobucci made the 911 call on Hedge’s behalf. “I didn’t even know her name. That’s the funny part. I had to ask her her name in a text,” Lacobucci said.

An ambulance arrived and took the soon-to-be-mother to the hospital where, the newest member of the Swifties, Lyle was born.

“People say that I started my new era as being a mother, so leave the Eras Tour and go into my new one,” Hedges said.

We’re pretty sure this is going to be one of those stories where friends are going to be asking you tell at parties again and again.

Looking for love in all the wrong places

Here’s a guaranteed way to NOT fall in love at first sight!

Amber Beraun of Indianapolis returned home from work in May. Unfortunately, Damien Boyce, a would-be-robber was outside waiting for her. She was checking her mailbox when Boyce walked up to her and pulled a gun. Initially Boyce ordered Beraun to let him in her house. Thinking quickly on her feet, she offered the $100 she had in the car. After she gave him the money, she thought that was the end of that.

This is where things take a bizarre turn. Boyce introduced himself to Beraun and asked if she had a boyfriend. While holding the gun at her, he graciously told her that he had sent a friend request on Facebook.

“I thought if maybe I added him on Facebook, he would leave and he did,” Beraun said.

After confirming that she had indeed sent him a friend request, he escaped on a bicycle.

Now I’m sure we’re wondering what happened next. Later in the day he accepted her friend request and he began his one sided courtship. According to the documents from the court, Boyce only regretted robbing Beraun because of her attractive appearance.
“Look just know imma (sic) pay you back ok,” Boyce wrote, according to court files.

“It’s a f***ed up way to meet but d*** you wass (sic) to pretty to rob.”

Beraun felt that she needed to respond to the messages to play along so that she could buy time for the police to arrest him.

“I believe you man. I can tell you’re sweet. Times just get rough, I know that,” she wrote back.

Well her plan paid off sort of. In mid-June, Boyce was arrested for another robbery that involved shooting 2 people and assaulting someone with a brick. Although Beraun doesn’t have to deal with him anymore she still feels unsafe in her own home.

“It makes me a little on edge knowing that people walk up and down the street, looking for places to commit crimes. Especially as a young female, it’s something you always think about but never think it will happen to you,” said Beraun.

“He really tried to rob me of my own things, but he took away my sense of safety from my own home.”
