Weird and Wacky Wednesday: Volume 251

On this week’s Weird and Wacky Wednesday, we have unlikely waterslide buddies, unusual contraband from an Ecuador prison and a bonus trip to the ER for a ‘Price is Right’ contestant.

Follow along and get the weirdest and wackiest news from around the globe!

Sliding Down a Storm Drain

We start with an odd combination of motorist and Florida Sheriff Deputy who take a ride through a storm drain. Deputy Sheriff William Hollingsworth was in the middle of rescuing stranded motorists on a flooded Highway 98 when he saw one of them suddenly disappear from view, sucked under the surface of flooded road. As the deputy rushed forward to assist the motorist, with no regard to his own safety, he was also sucked up in the current.

The pair of them ended up 100ft (30m) from where they started on the other side of the highway. The deputy’s body cam captured the whole ordeal but the portion through the drains was only pitch black and the sounds of rushing water. After appearing from the other side the deputy shouted “Buddy I got you! Oh Jesus!”

To which the motorist replied, “I almost died” Hollingsworth helped the motorist up and the two held onto each other as they head back across the road, still in a state of shock.

“I’ve never held my breath like that in my life,” Hollingsworth said. “Me neither,” the motorist replied. The other officers arrived and the pair went over their experience.

“Thank you man, for like, being there when I came out,” the driver thanked Hollingsworth. “When I came out, you were right behind me.”

Later, sitting in a law enforcement vehicle, the driver gives the deputy a firm handshake and says “Me and you, man!” he says, “That’s an experience for life and I appreciate you.”

Sounds like the deputy made a new friend for life!

Unusual Contraband

I’m sure we’ve all know about the regular contraband in prisons like, knives, drugs and cellphones. But this is a story about the weird and wacky and of course we wouldn’t be writing about that.

In Santo Domingo, Ecuador, authorities conducted a sweep in the high security wing of the Bellavista Prison. There, they seized 26 bladed weapons, 16 electronic devices, 2 pigs, a dog and 16 fighting docks. The authorities declined to comment on how all the animals got into the prison. However, it was been long known that these ‘mega prisons’ are largely self governed by the inmates due to the underfunding and overcrowding of the penitentiary system.

Authorities suspect that the animals were used for gambling purposes inside the prison. Obviously the fighting cocks are used in fights which are illegal in many countries around the world, but what about the pigs? I leave it to your fertile imagination how one could bet with 2 pigs.

Judging from the images they were probably the more healthier members of the prison. Maybe next time just smuggle in dice and cards, it’s definitely cleaner and easier than dealing with livestock.

The Price is Right, but the Joint is Wrong

A recent contestant named Henry on the game show, “The Price is Right” celebrated a little too hard. He definitely got the price right but he did one too many fist pumps. It was revealed after he won a Hawaiian vacation in the game of “Bonkers”, he jumped up and down and pumped his arms in joy. However the joy was short lived as he ended up dislocating his shoulder.

The gameshow host Drew Carey had to inform the audience what happened when it came time to do the Showcase Showdown portion of show. Since it involves spinning a giant wheel to try and get as close as possible to $1, the Carey told the audience that Henry injured himself during in his enthusiasm.
Let me explain what happened,” Carey explained to the studio participants .” Henry was celebrating and going ‘woo,’ and he dislocated his shoulder.”

Fear not, his wife, Alice, filled in and managed to spin .95 out of a $1. At that point Carey warned Alice “Don’t hurt yourself”

I don’t think Henry will have any problems recovering on his well deserved vacation to Hawaii. Aloha!
