Weird and Wacky Wednesday: Volume 216

This week on Weird and Wacky Wednesday a neighbourhood Halloween display causes controversy, a Florida town Mayor gets violent during hurricane clean up and a man in Illinois gets three years for defending himself…with an illegal gun.

Follow the jump and learn more about this week’s weirdest and wackiest cases from around the globe.

Stranger things have happened

By now most people have watched, or at least heard about, the popular Netflix show Stranger Things. It’s no surprise that with season 4 just dropping this summer, people would want to incorporate some aspect of the show into their decorating this spooky season!

And that’s exactly what a family in a small town in Illinois did when they decorated the outside of their house for Halloween this year. It is a really cool display which includes a scene from the show where the character, Max Mayfield, is floating in the air.

Unfotunately what was supposed to be a fun display for people of the neighbourhood and beyond to enjoy has turned sour after one neighbour complained that the display was increasing traffic in the neighbourhood and would result in more home break-ins.

Others neighbours have said they have no problem with the display and only see families coming by to admire the family’s work, but unfortunately they’ve had to shutter everything up until they get a chance to speak with the city officials.

I know we have the grinch as a way to describe party poopers during the holiday season, but what do we call them around Halloween time?

Watch where you swing that rake

Hurricane Ian swept through Florida last week, and the people of the small town of Indialantic were out in full force after it passed through to help clean up their town, even the Mayor showed up.

But it didn’t go as planned for the Mayor, since he was arrested and currently faces a misdemeanor battery charge after he used a rake to hit another man in the head.

That’s right, instead of using the rake as a useful tool to help the cleaning efforts, the Mayor used it as a weapon.

It’s unclear why he hit the man with the rake, but there is video footage of it, so it’s not looking too good.

Can’t self defend with an illegal gun

When someone shoots at you and you happen to have a gun as well, I think a person’s first reflex would be to shoot back at the person shooting at them. Haha that’s a tongue twister. But it probably isn’t the best idea to shoot back at person when the gun you have is very illegal.

And now, a 23-year-old employee of iHOP, who shot back at his coworker, has been sentenced to over three years in jail for possessing the illegal gun he used to defend himself.

Imagine getting shot at and also getting jail time for it. Yikes, that’s an unfortunate turn of events.
