This week on Weird and Wacky Wednesdays, a new string of…pizza robberies is causing fear in Manitoba, while in Ontario, police arrest a person videoed hitching a ride on the back of the truck. And lastly, in Florida, a woman was arrested for a DUI, but not before performing a dance on the side of the road.
Follow the jump and learn more about this week’s weirdest and wackiest legal cases from around the globe.
Pizza so good, you have to steal it
Pizza delivery drivers in Portage la Prairie Manitoba are no longer safe to do their job of bringing happiness, (read; pizza) right to people’s front doors after a recent string of robberies.
There have been three reported cases of three different delivery drivers all being stopped on their ways to deliver pizzas and robbed…of said pizza.
While the first two robberies only consisted of pizza robberies, the third incident resulted in a stolen pie and a stolen car.
Weapons were pulled on each driver, two being threatened with a knife, and one a machete, but the drivers were never injured.
Police are unsure at this time if each robbery was committed by the same person. On the other hand, I’m just trying to figure out what kind of monster would think stealing someone else’s pizza order is okay!
The back of a truck is NOT a free Uber
It should go without saying, that hitching a ride on the back of a cargo truck is not a great way to get around.
In fact, as one person in a small Ontario town learned the hard way, it’s actually pretty illegal. Even more so when the truck driver themselves doesn’t know you decided to hitch a ride in the first place.
The individual, who was caught on camera hanging off the back of a moving truck, was identified and arrested by the police.
I’m unsure if this is a common occurrence that the OPP see regularly or what, but they thought it was also necessary to send a tweet out reminding people that this is, in fact illegal. On top of it being reckless and dangerous, the action also usually comes with a $110 fine.
Dancing sobriety test
I’m sure we’ve all heard of the side of the road sobriety test police can use if they pull someone over and suspect they have been drinking.
It’s usually comprised of walking in a straight line or standing on one foot, or things along those lines. Simple enough.
Apparently for a woman in Florida however, this wasn’t enough for her, as she decided to partake in an entire dance performance on the side of the road. The dance styles she decided to partake in included ballet and Irish dancing.
Apparently, her dance moves were not seen as impressive by the officers.
As a result of her dancing, and then refusing to provide a breath sample, she was charged with a pair of misdemeanours and arrested. She has already been charged with a DUI in the past, but so far there is no update on her last case.
