Weird and Wacky Wednesday: Volume 177

This week on Weird and Wacky Wednesday, we see why threatening anyone, let alone a judge, is always a bad idea, then we learn about cottagers in the Killarney area that have filed a human rights complaint regarding a land claim. And finally, we get a lesson in why it’s never a good idea to use a restaurant bathroom as anything other than a place to do just that-go to the bathroom.

Follow the jump to learn more about this week’s weirdest and wackiest cases from around the globe!

Well, that didn’t go as planned

The best way to win a case is surprisingly not to blackmail the judge, who would have thought!

After a Florida judge alleged a prominent lawyer in Fort Lauderdale had threatened to leak nude photos of her, it was finally decided by Judge William Roby of Martin County, Florida, that she can seek punitive damages against the lawyer and his firm in her lawsuit.

The threat came from a case the lawyer was working on, where he was representing the judge’s ex-husband’s girlfriend. I guess he wanted to persuade the judge to accept a deposition, but he went about it in the wrong way.

Instead of just asking nicely, he thought it was a good idea to let the judge know if she did not accept the deposition, that her nudes would be leaked. Clearly, it was not a good idea.

Hey-that’s my cottage!

Killarney is located in Northern Ontario near Sudbury and along the northern shore of Georgian Bay. It is home to many cottage getaways.

Due to a recent land settlement agreement that is in the works, which would see the potential transfer of numerous Crown islands in northern Georgian Bay to the Wiikwemkoong Unceded Territory, a family that owns one of the cottage getaways in Killarney has filed an application through the Human Rights Tribunal of Ontario, to try and stop the transfer.

The family says they are not only worried about their cottage but claims that the settlement would create numerous other problems, including dangerous conditions for kayakers who would be unable to access certain shorelines while paddling through Georgian Bay.

As of right now, no agreement has been reached in terms of the land settlement, however, if it does go through, “the applicants are requesting $1.5 million for loss of property value and emotional suffering, plus legal costs.”

I don’t think a sink was meant for this

After deciding to use a restaurant bathroom as a place to hook up, a Florida woman is now being charged with criminal mischief.

She was in the bathroom with a friend, and when the staff found them in there, they were asked to leave. However, instead of leaving, they instead went to sit at the bar.

Then, they had the idea to go into the bathroom together again, and this time, it ended in the sink being torn off the wall.

Apparently, the fiasco caused $500 worth of damages, and the woman is being charged now because the owner decided to press charges.

Let this be a lesson, if you’re asked to leave a restaurant, you’re probably better off leaving it the first time you are asked to avoid any further mishaps.
