This week on Weird and Wacky Wednesdays, we look at what might cause a man to say “see ya later, alligator” and mean it literally. Then, we question how you can be charged with impaired driving when you’re simply floating in the water. Finally, we head to Australia where we hear about a very questionable excuse for speeding.
Follow the jump to learn more about the weirdest and wackiest legal cases from around the globe!
Baby Alligator
We all know the words to the viral sensation “Baby Shark” but did you know that baby alligators are apparently serious bad dudes?
Okay, maybe that’s not quite true. But in Florida, one man had a, shall we say, eclectic combination of items after being arrested for a stolen car. In addition to the ordinary guns, drugs, and cash, the man was arrested in possession of a baby alligator.
Apparently, investigators determined that the alligator was being kept as a pet and was not involved in the crimes for which the man was investigated. But, given what else was in the vehicle, I expect the man will not be seeing his alligator until…. later.
Impaired Kayaking?
Most people understand that if you drive a car while impaired by alcohol, you can be arrested and charged. Ditto for boats – if you’re boating while impaired then you could be facing some serious consequences. But not many people know that you can face criminal charges for kayaking while impaired by alcohol.
But what makes this case, out of Ontario, even more interesting, is the fact that the police charged the kayaker with impaired kayaking while he was not even in the kayak. After a 911 call about a man in distress in the water, the police found a man who had apparently been involved in a kayaking mishap.
Despite the fact that he was floating in the water and not in control of the vessel, the police still were able to gather evidence and charge him with kayaking while impaired.
A Bad Excuse to Speed
In Australia, police recently pulled over a man who was driving his Lamborghini for speeding. According to police, his speed was 70 kilometres per hour over the speed limit!
When asked why he was travelling at such an excessive speed, the man explained that he was justified in speeding. His excuse? He was in a rush to get to the hospital to be tested for COVID-19. Apparently, he made no comment on how badly he risked his life and that of others by driving at that speed.
Something tells me, however, that he can probably afford the speeding ticket in this case.
