Weird and Wacky Wednesdays: Volume Forty Three

This week on Weird and Wacky Wednesdays, we look at three strange cases from around the world. The first involves the worst guard dog in history. The second takes place in our favorite state of Florida, where a half-million dollar heist seems very unlikely. Finally, we look at more than one way to save money at Subway restaurants.

Follow the link below to read the best of the weird and wacky legal stories from this week.

Worst Intruder Ever?

More like worst guard dog ever.

It’s one thing to have your house broken into by an intruder who then passes out drunk in your living room. But it’s another thing entirely to find that intruder cuddled up with your 120 mastiff.

However, that was the case for one Australian woman, who awakened in the wee hours of the night to found her dog sleeping peacefully with a drunken man on her living room floor. It’s not as terrible as it sounds, however, as the man was a neighbour from a few doors down who had drunkenly forgotten where he lived and wandered into the wrong house.

Still, it doesn’t put the mind at ease to know that your guard dog Is basically useless against middle-of-the-night predators. Excuse me while I train Wrigley to attack…

Can you pass the salt, and the lime wedges?

If you had told me that you could make good money in bulk heists, I would have thought that you were talking about stealing bulk quantities of diamonds, or bulk laptops, or even bulk quantities of truffles. I would not have thought about stealing bulk quantities of liquor. But apparently this is thing.

After a truck driver stopped for dinner at a truck stop in Tampa, Florida — because of course it’s Florida — he came out to find that his trailer had been detached from his truck. The driver contacted police, who located the trailer a short distance away with four men hurriedly unloading bulk quantities of tequila.

Turns out the truck had contained 966 cases of tequila, valued at over $500,000. However, only twenty of the nearly-one thousand cases were recovered, meaning that nearly a half million dollars worth of stolen tequila is freely pouring through the black market.

Which begs the question… how did these four men unload 946 cases of tequila during the amount of time the driver was eating dinner? This clearly wasn’t a crime of opportunity. But who thinks about staking out a tequila delivery truck?

Florida men. Clearly.

That’s one alternative to penis enlargement

Yes, I’m writing two Florida posts in one Wacky Wednesday, but this one’s a good’n. In case you did not know, the five dollar footlong promotion that had been a long-running staple of Subway restaurants is now over. It turns out, the $5 footlong was not a money-making venture for Subway francisees, and the franchisees sued and succeeded in court. Thanks a lot.But one Florida customer found a way to avoid paying more for his footlong despite the lawsuit. After the sandwich was made, and while he was standing at the cashier, he brazenly took the whole footlong sandwich and shoved the entire thing down his pants. Then, he walked out.

But it gets better. He traveled to a nearby gas station, where he was caught on camera purchasing a bottle of pop (yes, he paid for that) and then rearranged his sandwich-wang to a more comfortable position before getting on a bicycle and riding away.

And I can’t help but think that the facts of this case really highlight why they should bring back the $5 footlong.
