This week on Weird and Wacky Wednesdays we look at a woman’s crazy antics on board a plane, then we examine the case of a Canadian-born man who erected a bold artistic statement in his front lawn. And finally, we have a contender for the grossest story ever featured on Weird and Wacky Wednesdays – and there have been some gross ones, believe me.
Follow the jump to find the stories that caught my eye this week.
Fasten your seatbelts
Whenever we fly, we have to follow a lot of rules and social conventions, both spoken and unspoken. Keep your seatbelt on, no smoking, remain seated when told to do so. Throw Covid-19 and the requirement to wear masks into the mix and there are even more rules.
So it’s jarring whenever we see someone not following these rules. This viral footage shows the defying of plane etiquette taken to the extreme. It shows a female passenger on a flight to Michigan screaming, cursing and climbing on the seats.
The flight attendants try to calm the passenger as she jumps around and yells at the top of her lungs. Great work by the crew for subduing the woman mid-flight.
Got wood?

The extent of human artistic expression never ceases to amaze me. From the paintings of the Chauvet Cave to the Sistine Chapel, to a guy who chainsawed a giant penis on his front lawn, our skill and talent know no bounds.
Like a lot of great art, Montreal-born Jaime Gagne’s 2.1m phallic statue was born out of protest. The carpenter originally erected the carving as a middle finger to his town which was preventing him from getting a permit to build a shed.
He succeeded in grabbing their attention as he was arrested and charged with displaying offensive sexual material. He now intends to fight the charge in court but, in the meantime, moved the wooden penis to his back yard.
Reduce, reuse, recycle

I’m never one to criticise people for finding ways to reduce consumption, but in my opinion, there are still some things that should just stay as single-use plastics. Police in Vietnam confiscated used condoms that had been cleaned and reshaped to be resold as new.
Police seized bags of used condoms weighing more than 360 kg, equivalent to 345,000 condoms. According to local police, a woman detained explained they were boiled in water, dried and reshaped on a wooden phallas before being packaged and resold.
That’s the second wooden penis in a single week of Weird and Wacky Wednesdays. That must be some sort of record.
