Kyla on CBC: Who should be paying for city councillors’ verified social media accounts?

When the City of Vancouver’s budget was released this week, one item that stood out was the expensed cost of councillors’ verified accounts on X, formerly known as Twitter. Kyla Lee, a Vancouver criminal lawyer, and Mo Amir, a Vancouver podcast host, tell Gloria Macarenko that it’s an inappropriate use of taxpayer funds.

“Where does Twitter’s money go to?!… To give your money to a corporation and to give taxpayer money to a corporation for that without allowing taxpayers input on whether you should do that is concerning…”

“I haven’t seen any evidence of any cost cutting. I’ve seen a lot of grandstanding about things they’re going to do to cut costs…”
