Welcome to another wild ride on “Weird and Wacky Wednesdays,” where we cruise through the craziest car-related capers that will leave you rubbernecking in disbelief. This week, we’re spotlighting some outrageous automotive antics. We start with a bride-to-be’s high-flying mattress moving mishap in Utah, then we learn of a Florida woman who called 911 on herself while trying to steal a car and we conclude with a YouTuber’s explosive Lamborghini stunt that landed him in hot water.
Breaking In Their Mattress
It’s important to secure your load. Every year I’m contacted by people who have been stopped by police for to transporting something in a manner that is unsafe. Most of the time the police stop the driver before something bad happens.
In Provo, Utah, a bride-to-be’s attempt to secure a king-sized mattress before her wedding day turned into a high-speed disaster. Alex and Lydia Kessinger thought they had a foolproof plan to transport their mattress by having Lydia lie on it in the back of their truck.
However, as they sped down State Street at 50 miles per hour, the mattress took flight, hurling Lydia onto the road. Lucky for her, she avoided oncoming traffic and escaped with significant road rash.
Game Over: Florida Woman Calls 911 on Herself While Stealing Car
Christy Lee Turman, a 37-year-old Florida woman, was arrested after calling 911 on herself while attempting to steal a car. Turman told the 911 operator that she was in the middle of stealing a Toyota Corolla as part of her training for the video game “Call of Duty: Black Ops” and wanted to notify the police.
Officers arrived to find Turman exiting the vehicle and promptly arrested her for trespassing. With a criminal history including petty theft, robbery, and aggravated battery, this self-reported crime added a new chapter to Turman’s rap sheet.
9 Streak: Chopper Gunner
Finally, from practicing Call of Duty: Black Ops to actually playing black ops in real life, YouTuber Alex Choi, known for his car shenanigans, is facing federal charges after orchestrating a dangerous stunt involving a helicopter and fireworks.
Just like in the game, after you get a 9 kill streak and call in Chopper Gunner, Choi directed two women in a helicopter to shoot fireworks at a speeding Lamborghini as it raced across El Mirage Dry Lake Bed. He titled his video “Destroying a Lamborghini with Fireworks” providing the Department of Justice all the evidence they need.
With over a million followers on Instagram and YouTube, Choi’s antics usually entertain, but this explosive stunt crossed the line into illegal territory.
Choi has been charged with causing the placement of an explosive or incendiary device on an aircraft. He now faces up to ten years in federal prison. His courtroom drama is set to unfold with an arraignment scheduled for July 2.
