Weird and Wacky Wednesdays: Volume 196

This week on Weird and Wacky Wednesdays, we look at the case of a wedding that had more than a little surprise for the guests. Then, we examine some of the more grotesque allegations in the Johnny Depp trial. Finally, we look at what you do not want to happen on a school field trip.

Follow the jump and learn more about this week’s weirdest and wackiest legal cases from around the globe.

A Wedding in the Weeds

Leave it to a Florida bride to host the most Florida wedding of all time. A woman in Florida allegedly worked together with her caterer to spike the wedding meal with cannabis products.

The dosing apparently took place without guests’ knowledge, one of whom contacted police after he felt as though he had been drugged at the wedding. Many of the guests ended up sick, requiring medical attention. The best part? The bride watched her guests taken away on stretchers with a big stoned grin on her face.

She and the caterer have been charged with a number of offences, including tampering, culpable negligence, and delivering narcotics.

I Heard What You Did

Meanwhile, the weirdest and wacky trial capturing the nation’s attention right now has to be the Johnny Depp/Amber Heard trial. Recently, jurors were treated to some pretty shocking testimony.

Among the allegations of extensive drug use, vulgar text messages, and over-the-top drinking was also a strange suggestion: that Amber Heard pooped in their bed at one of their penthouse apartments, in order to get revenge on Johnny Depp for being late to her birthday party.

The best part about this is that this is not even the first time that poopgate has been litigated. Apparently, these wild allegations were brought up in a UK defamation trial and dismissed. The poop was – you guessed it – attributed to the dog.

Field Trip Blues

Meanwhile, a little closer to home, a teacher in Nanaimo has had her license suspended for impaired driving. And while that does not itself seem so weird or wacky, what makes this case particularly strange is that the teacher was still on duty. With a car full of student passengers, on their way to a school-sanctioned extra-curricular event.

In BC, a driving prohibition for DUI comes with a 90-day license suspension, a 30-day vehicle impoundment, and a referral to an alcohol counselling and education course. But in circumstances where the teacher does this while in the course of their work, there can also be serious consequences for the College of Teachers and the school district.
