This week on Weird and Wacky Wednesdays: Doing it right in front of the police
This week on Weird and Wacky Wednesday, we look at three stories where people decided to commit their crimes directly in front of the police. These were not quiet attempts to slip away unnoticed. One wonders sometimes why police think everyone is a criminal. The stories this week do nothing to discourage that way of thinking.
Equine Detective
The first story comes from Lubbock, Texas. Officers stopped to question a man on the side of the road who seemed suspicious. When asked if they could search his pockets, he refused. The officer then casually mentioned that his horse could smell narcotics.
That was all it took. It seems the suspect didn’t get the joke. The fellow then began to run, right in front of the mounted patrol. The horse and officer were on the suspect in mere seconds. Joseph Ramirez, 41, now faces charges for evading arrest and tampering with evidence.
If you are going to run, picking a fight with a horse that already has a rider seems like a poor choice.
What’s more entertaining than going to jail?
Our second case is from Fairview Heights, Illinois, where a traffic stop turned into a scene out of a strange comedy. An officer had just stepped out of his cruiser when a 2018 Chevrolet Camaro slammed into the back of the patrol car. The officer narrowly avoided being crushed. The driver, 28-year-old Mr. Jennings, climbed out of the wreck. He told the police that he needed a new car. He admitted to the officer that he had been drinking, taken weed pills, and hit the cruiser on purpose because he was bored and hated police.
Mr. Jennings is now facing multiple felony charges. I watched the video of his confession on TikTok. His explanation was so casual that it sounded like he was reporting a minor inconvenience.
They say it’s always the Dodge Ram driver
The final story happened in Winnipeg during a busy public event. A Dodge Ram pickup was spotted doing burnouts near heavy pedestrian traffic. Police attempted two traffic stops, both ignored by the driver. Air support tracked the truck until ground units deployed a tire deflation device.
Even with punctured tires, the driver rammed a police SUV before attempting to flee on foot. He was quickly caught and charged with impaired driving, assaulting a peace officer, resisting arrest, and dangerous driving. One can reasonably assume that alcohol was a factor.
My advice is not to ram the police in a Ram. Don’t run from the police but rather, assert your right to silence. And if you are bored, don’t get drunk and ram a police car before confessing to being drunk and deciding to ram a police car because you were bored, drunk and high.
If you don’t follow my advice, you can call me after you’re done with the police and I’ll do my very best to defend you.
See you next week, dear friends.
