It’s not just Barbie who has trouble with the law
I can’t wait to see the Barbie movie. The hype over the last few months has me hooked. The aesthetics are compelling and the criticism by certain people on the right makes it seem like a film I will like. But I expect it will still be predictable. The trailer shows Barbie getting arrested which one could reasonably predict.
Great Balls of Fire
Legal issues make for compelling stories. Some are spicier than others. Take, for example, this lawsuit out of Los Gatos California.
Dr. Harjasleen Walia filed a suit against a Thai restaurant for an alleged injury from their spicy dragon balls. One could reasonably assume that dragon balls are spicy, and indeed the menu does describe them as “A true revolution of your senses. Fireworks light up your mouth from our traditional menu that puts the true ‘Thai’ back in command of Thai food,” but this dish appears to have taken it a little too far.
The doctor claims she ordered the mild version of the dragon balls appetizer at Coup De Thai (clever!) restaurant two years ago which, she claims, gave her chemical burns that caused her permanent injury.
As they say, that’s a spicy meatball!
Beaning the Wrong Person
Turning down the heat a little, let’s discuss the case of a Florida woman and her burrito.
Burrito literally means “little donkey” probably because you can carry so much in it. Sarah Kochera apparently thinks of it as a projectile, because she threw one at her boyfriend in a Florida restaurant. Witnesses describe Sarah yelling at customers in the restaurant and then throwing a burrito at her boyfriend. She missed. A burrito is not the ideal projectile. The burrito struck a patron of the restaurant.
Sarah was charged with disorderly conduct rather than assault with a weapon (to wit: a burrito), probably because she didn’t intend to strike the person who was the ultimate victim. Interestingly, a quick google search indicates that a number of people over the years have been charged with burrito-related crimes. If the burrito was hot, is taken into account at the sentencing? Probably.
Teaching children to play with fire
Some like it hot and some sweat when the heat is on.
Courtney Sellers is probably sweating right now because she’s facing an arson charge as well as insurance fraud, aggravated assault and cruelty to children. She is alleged to have pressured her stepchild to light a fire in her home to burn it down for the purpose of collecting insurance. And she did this twice.
One must assume she failed the first time.
I have so many questions about this case. The police in Wayne County Georgia report that they have footage and interviews to support it.
Turns out Barbie isn’t the only one having a brush with the law this summer.
