Tensions have ramped up between B.C. and Alberta over the idea of an oil pipeline to B.C.’s North Coast. And, in a series of interviews, Vancouver Mayor Ken Sim has defended his city’s cuts to arts and culture while boosting the VPD budget by $50 million as necessary.
“It’s not surprising that this is going on, it’s essentially why he created this legislation, to give him the power to do this… I think it does put projects that are going on in the province at risk because as soon as you do something that First Nations say ‘we don’t want this’ or ‘this is going to compromise what we want’, they’re going to pull their support for projects that we have and you’re going to see things end up in the courts…”
